Rhode Island, the smallest state in the United States, often also carries the title of the state with the worst winters. Each year Father Frost brings ice storms and blizzards to the houses within the limits of the Ocean State. Thankfully, much of the damage caused by such extreme weather may be covered by homeowners insurance in Rhode Island. Residents may be surprised to find out that winter also brings with it a chance for mold.

What is the purpose of having gutters on your home? Their main job is to keep the rain away from your house’s foundation. Their secondary roles are to prevent erosion, leaks, and  damage to your home’s exterior. How can the gutters accomplish all this when they are stuffed full of leaves, twigs, and other debris? During the winter as the snow melts, clogged gutters can cause the water to look for another escape route.

The alternative path is often through the roof’s shingles into the home. As water gets into the walls, mold can begin growing. How can you limit the chances of your home developing mold? The key is keeping your gutters clean. You may be able to do this yourself however, if you cannot, there are gutter cleaning services that will do it for you.
