Our staff had a great time this past Sunday, October 14th attending the Victoria Sousa Foundation’s annual 5K Run/Walk at beautiful Colt State Park in Bristol.
It was the foundation’s 5th annual event. The Victoria Sousa Foundation is a charity that hits close to home for our agency. The Victoria Sousa Foundation was established to honor Victoria who passed away on October 26, 2009 from the H1N1 virus. Their mission is to help children achieve goals that we know Victoria would have accomplished herself.
Participants were also able to get their flu shot. Flu activity is low in most of the United States, but influenza viruses are still causing illness. The Center for Disease Control continues to recommend vaccination as long as flu viruses are still circulating. Remember that flu antiviral drugs are a second line of defense to treat flu illness. People at high risk of serious flu illness should call a health care provider if they get flu symptoms.
Additional information on the various strains of the flu and what you can do to minimize your risks can be found on the CDC website at www.cdc.gov/flu. For more information on the H1N1 Flu, go to www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu.
The foundation’s scholarships are awarded to well deserving boys or girls who want to attend St. Philomena School, and to young women who want to attend Bay View Academy. All recipients must show a financial need, and if not for this scholarship, they would be unable to realize their dream of attending either of these great schools.
We are very proud and honored that Victoria’s legacy goes on through these wonderful boys and girls.
The annual 5K Run/Walk is a great way to raise money and also thanks to all the local sponsors for supporting a great cause.
Our staff is already looking forward to next October’s 5K Run/Walk at Colt State Park!
